What Affects a Piano Move?

Moving a piano requires more than simply having enough people to lift it. Pianos are exceptionally heavy, delicate instruments with uneven weight distribution, sensitive internal components and finishes that need to be carefully protected throughout the move.

Every piano move is different. Whether we're moving a Kawai, a Steinway , a Bösendorfer or a Fazioli , the piano itself is only part of the equation. The access at both properties plays an equally important role in determining the crew, equipment and approach required for a safe move.

Stairs & Elevation
Interior and exterior stairs, landings and changes in elevation can significantly affect how a piano needs to be positioned, supported and moved.

Grass, Gravel & Uneven Terrain
The route between the home and moving truck matters too. Lawns, gravel driveways, slopes and uneven surfaces can require additional equipment and preparation.

Tight Turns & Corners
Narrow hallways, staircase turns and confined entrances require careful measurements and planning to safely navigate the instrument through the property.

Doorways & Access
Doorway clearance, elevators, building access and the distance between the property and moving truck all help determine the safest approach to the move.
